Macbeth, which was played in the Congress Haus Innsbruck on behalf of the Vienna English Theatre, was definitely worth to experience and can be strongly recommended to everyone. The play is known for its themes ambition, power and cruelty and is interpreted for learners of English as the whole audience were school classes.

What we liked about the play is that the language is exceptionally written and that the script includes text passages of Shakespeare’s original piece. The actors and actress played enthusiastically with a special shout-out to the performers of “Macbeth” and “Lady Macbeth” who were a pleasure to watch. We also loved the character of Banquo as he played the scenes in an inspirational manner that kept us connected with the plot all the time.

What we didn’t like about the play were the stage props. They were very minimalistic as they unfortunately didn’t involve anything about the mystic scenery described in the script. Instead, there were only some painted banners in the back and not much more.

Another aspect that could be improved is that all roles could be performed by more than just four people. The characters had to switch their identities quickly and this is why sometimes we weren’t able to understand what character the actors were actually playing.

In conclusion, if you are learning English and want to improve your skills, it’s a great play to watch anyway.
